“…Sorex savini was described by Hinton (1911) and Kormos (1930) distinguished another species for a similar form as S. margaritodon on the basis of its smaller size than the previous one. Botka & Mészáros (2016) demonstrated that the measurements of the two forms overlap and the tiny diff erences between them may be the consequences of intraspecifi c variability. Hence, they thought that Hinton, 1911, thus the earlier S. (D.) savini is the valid name.…”

“…It disappeared from the continent in the Middle Pleistocene (Botka & Mészáros 2015). Sorex (Drepanosorex) savini is reported from the Early Pleistocene MN 17 Zone until the Late Biharian Stage of the Middle Pleistocene (Botka & Mészáros 2016). Th e simultaneous occurrence of these four species determines the age of Beremend 14 locality to be neither older nor younger than the Early Pleistocene.…”

“…Sorex savini was described by Hinton (1911) from West Runton, England. In the Betfi a (also known as Püspökfürdő, Romania) material Kormos (1930) (Botka & Mészáros 2016). Aft er those studies, Sorex (Drepanosorex) margaritodon Kormos, 1930 is regarded here as a synonym of Sorex (Drepanosorex) savini Hinton, 1911, so the Beremend 14 specimens are systematized as S. (D.) savini, which is the earlier name, so the valid one.…”

“…Seven shrew species were mentioned by Botka & Mészáros (2014a) in a preliminary report on this material. Th ese shrew specimens were described also in detail in the following articles: Beremendia (Botka & Mészáros 2014b, 2015a, Crocidura (Botka & Mészáros 2015b), and Sorex (Botka & Mészáros 2016). Ever since, two further species were identifi ed from the shrew assemblage, which ones were mentioned only in preliminary faunal lists so far (Mészáros & Botka 2017, Pazonyi et al 2017.…”
