“…The main problem addressed in the current paper is how social studies teachers, as educators responsible for teaching geography subjects at middle schools, perceive and interpret the changes made in the 2018 curriculum and implement them into educational activities. A literature survey on previous studies about geography in social studies education (Akengin et al, 2010;Alkış, 2005;Baloğlu-Uğurlu and Aladağ, 2015;Demircioğlu, 2004;Demirkaya and Arıbaş, 2004;Geçit and Beldağ, 2014;Kadıoğlu, 2008;Kaya and Aydın, 2011;Kızılçaoğlu and Taş, 2007;Özel and Başoğlu, 2007;Pınar and Akdağ, 2012;Sever and Koçoğlu, 2013;Sözcü, Oğuz and Aydınözü, 2016;Taçyıldız and Çifçi, 2020;Ulusoy and Gülüm, 2009) revealed that although there are many studies conducted with teacher candidates and students, only a limited number of qualitative studies were reported.
