Nowadays, transformer-less photovoltaic (PV) multi-level inverters (MLIs) are commonly employed in both industrial and residential settings. This structure has attracted increased attention due to its unique advantages, such as higher efficiency, lower cost and size, better waveform quality, and inherent fault tolerance. However, due to the removal of the transformer, the common mode voltage (CMV) becomes one of the crucial issues in transformer-less PV MLIs. The high-frequency variation in CMV results in a leakage current that deteriorates the line current quality, increases the PV power system losses, leads to severe electromagnetic emissions (EMI), reduces the PV array lifespan, and causes personal safety problems. In this regard, this paper presents a review of the existing and recent research on modulation techniques based on space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWMs) that overcome this issue in transformer-less three-level NPC-MLIs (3L-NPC-MLIs). The reduced CMV-SVPWM (RCMV-SVPWM) can be mainly categorized as an RCMV-SVPWM based on the vector type, based on virtual vectors, and based on the two-level SVPWM (2L-SVPWM). Their features and their limitations in terms of several main criteria are discussed. In the final section of this paper, some challenges and future trends for this research area are projected.

This paper proposes three new direct power control (DPC) algorithms which minimise the variation of the common mode voltage (CMV) provided by a transformerless grid-connected three-level neutral point clamped (3L-NPC) inverter. The proposed techniques make use of three reduced switching tables designed with the aim to control the active and reactive powers and to minimise the variation of the CMV. The first switching table uses large, medium and zero vectors of the space vector diagram; it is therefore named large medium zero vectors DPC. The second table uses the medium and zero vectors. It is referred to as medium zero vectors DPC. The third one namely medium vectors DPC, uses only medium vectors. Numerical simulations and experimental tests carried out on a laboratory prototype of the 3L-NPC inverter confirm the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Modeling and Control of a Voltage-Lift Cell Split-Source Inverter With MPPT for Photovoltaic Systems

In this study, a new single-stage inverter with improved boosting performance was proposed to enhance the recently developed split-source inverter (SSI) topology. The study introduced new SSI configurations with high voltage gain. The proposed design features a voltage-lift cell made of capacitors, inductors, and diodes, which increases the boosting capability. The decoupled control technique, where The DC input current is controlled by the AC modulation signals,allows for independent adjustment of both the DC input and AC output current. The research also employed a modified space vector modulation approach to manage the inverter switches and reduce current ripple. The combination of the proposed topology and the modified SVPWM scheme significantly improves the DC-boosting capabilities. the validity of the proposed solution was confirmed through simulation using three-phase SSI models in MATLAB/SIMULINK®. Finally, The validity of the simulation and experimental investigation of the analysis and performance of the topologies provided.INDEX TERMS Decoupled control, grid connection, photovoltaic systems, three-phase split-source inverter (SSI), voltage-lift cell SSI.
