“…The two AHLs used in this study were selected on the basis of their reported ability to increase the growth rate and microbial activity of different bacterial lineages ( 55 , 56 ). Other desired actions of AHLs can include enhancing metabolic activity, such as N-tetradecanoyl-DL-homoserine lactone or N-dodecanoyl-L-homoserine lactone in ammonium oxidizing bacteria ( 57 ), or inducing protection against oxidative stress, such as N-Decanoyl-DL-homoserine lactone in Burkholderia pseudomallei ( 58 ). These increased capabilities could give several bacteria a higher chance to withstand the change of environment to laboratory conditions and support their growth there.…”

“…gingivalis, enhance the tolerance to drought in red rice plants in G. diazotrophicus PAL5, and enhance metabolic activity in AOB. However, the functions of C 14 -HSL in other bacteria remain to be further studied. The C 14 -HSL signaling molecule was also detected in rhizobia; this AHL regulated biofilm formation in the Sinorhizobium fredii strain SMH12 but coregulated EPS production, surface translocation, motility, growth rate, and nodulation with other AHLs produced by S.…”

“…Unlike ethanol-feed stimulation and the addition of conductive materials and electron shuttles, , our study provides the first proof of concept to drive DIET-based methanogenesis by the novel pathway of enhancing QS and expands DIET theory greatly. Moreover, QS widely occurs in various natural methanogenesis hotspots of paddy soils, wetland soils, and ocean sediments . In these various sediments, electroactive bacteria, e.g., Geobacter , and methanogens such as Methanosaeta , are widely detected and play important roles in carbon cycling. ,, QS is expected to regulate the DIET-based methanogenesis between electron-donating syntrophs and methanogens and affect the carbon cycling from a geoscience point of view.…”
