Strategic Optimization of Offshore Wind Farm Installation

Abstract: A B S T R A C TThis work describes logistical planning of offshore wind farm installation through mathematical optimization. Two optimization models are developed to analyse cost-effective port and vessel strategies for offshore installation operations. By applying principals of mixed integer linear programming (MILP), the two models seek to minimize total costs through port-and vessel related decisions. The models cover offshore transportation and installation of a given amount of wind turbines. Different vess… Show more

“…Similarly, B) would be liable to span restrictions in comparison to the rotor diameter. The quay area functions as a supermarket with buffer (Liker 2004), the CPM simulation though operates with predefined turnarounds defining the ready dates (Backe and Haugland 2017;Barlow et al 2017;Muhabie et al 2015;Paterson et al 2018;Tekle Muhabie et al 2018).…”

“…Alla et al (2013) detailed the overall project planning, including cabling, foundations, and turbines. Backe and Haugland (2017) investigated port and vessel configurations, emphasizing potential weatherbased effects. Ursavas (2017) further developed the understanding of offshore wind farm installation planning and how changing weather conditions are crucial in calculations.…”
