Structural and magnetic characterization of Fe nanoparticles synthesized by chemical vapor condensation process

Abstract: The structural and magnetic characteristics of iron nanoparticles synthesized by a chemical vapor condensation (CVC) process were investigated systematically by an x-ray diffraction method, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetometry and thermogravimetric analysis. Typical particle sizes were found to be in the range of 5–13 nm with uniform dispersion. The resulting microstructure of the nanoparticles correlated with parameters of the CVC process. In particular, a CVC… Show more

“…Recently, the abilities to fabricate nanoparticles of Fe nitrides and to exploit their particular properties have been attracting widespread attention [8][9][10], which has been considered as the potential candidate for magnetic applications [11]. Chemical vapor condensation (CVC) method has been developed for preparation of many kinds of nanoparticles with a narrow distribution in size [12][13][14]. Their unique properties and the improved performances are determined by their particle sizes, surface structures and inter-particle interactions.…”

“…The basic setup of CVC was similar to that of previous works [16,17]. Fe-Co nanoparticles were synthesized using iron pentacarbonyl [Fe(Co) 5 ] and cobalt octacarbonyl [Co 2 (CO) 8 ] as precursors.…”
