Students’ Academic Performance and Dropout Prediction

Abstract: Students’ Academic Performance (SAP) is an important metric in determining the status of students in any academic institution. It allows the instructors and other education managers to get an accurate evaluation of the students in different courses in a particular semester and also serve as an indicator to the students to review their strategies for better performance in the subsequent semesters. Predicting SAP is therefore important to help learners in obtaining the best from their studies. A number of resear… Show more

“…Using several classifiers, including max entropy and ensembles classifiers, the exactness of the classification technique with a selected characteristic vector is validated for a variety of electrical products. In comparable research, authors have analyzed the classification performance of SMO, RF, NB, and SVM for the Guardian data [ 45 , 46 ].…”

“…Data mining methods are also used to examine the overlapping of the completion of individual courses and the difficulties they are likely to cause to the participants during the training [8]. The most popular data mining methods include decision trees, neural networks, logistic regression and cluster analysis [9]. The traditional classification cannot directly be utilized for estimating probability events [10].…”

“…This is the case for diverse disciplinary fields, even though fields such as computer science and engineering seem to have conducted more such studies than others [7]. Most EDM review studies on predicting SAP have been conducted as either reviews [2,5,[8][9][10][11][12][13]; literature reviews [14][15][16]; systematic literature reviews [17][18][19][20]; systematic reviews [4,[21][22][23][24][25]; review syntheses [26]; or surveys [27,28]. While these review study types are not exhaustive, they represent a broad spectrum of the types of review studies that the current paper was able to locate.…”
