Studies on the Parametric Effects of Plasma Arc Welding of 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel

Abstract: This research study attempts to create an optimized parametric window by employing Taguchi algorithm for Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) of 2 mm thick 2205 duplex stainless steel. The parameters considered for experimentation and optimization are the welding current, welding speed and pilot arc length respectively. The experimentation involves the parameters variation and subsequently recording the depth of penetration and bead width. Welding current of 60–70 A, welding speed of 250–300 mm/min and pilot arc length of… Show more

“…Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) [5], [6], submerged arc welding (SAW) [7], gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) [5], [8], laser beam welding (LBW) [9], [10], plasma arc welding (PAW) [11], fluxcored arc welding (FCAW) [12], electron beam welding (EBW) [13], and friction assisted welding [14] are just a few of the processes that have been used to weld DSS by numerous researchers and engineers. However, a common processing technique that is frequently used in the production of DSS for engineering applications is fusion welding [15].…”

“…Because PAC is a highly non-linear and complex machining process governed by numerous processing parameters, a small deviation in process parameter can drastically affect the quality and performance characteristics of machined components. Recently, some researchers have utilized metaheuristic algorithms such as GA [ 40 , 41 , 42 ] and the whale optimization algorithm [ 43 ] for effective optimization of PAC processes and their characteristics. However, the artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) has not been utilized previously to perform optimization studies on ABC processes.…”

“…The PCA integrated with Taguchi approach was recommended to investigate the pulse on/off time, particle size, wire tension volume fraction, wire wear rate, surface roughness and recast layer thickness during machining in wire EDM [19]. In this way, advanced modelling techniques like support vector machine, PSO, RSM, regression and analysis have been employed in research area [20][21][22][23]. In the literature survey based has been to investigate wire EDM performance and analysis material surface of iron-nickel-chromium alloy through the hybrid optimization techniques (Taguchi and ANFIS).…”
