Study of Rheological Properties of Bituminous Binders in Middle and High Temperatures

Abstract: The bitumen binders in road pavements are exposed traffic loading effect at different climatic conditions. A resistance to these stresses depends on bitumen properties as well. The paper presents rheological properties (G*, δ, ν*) determined and compared for four bituminous binders (unmodified and polymer modified bitumen) at temperature 46 – 60 (80) °C and dynamic viscosity at temperature 130 – 190 °C (Brookfield viscometer). On the basis of viscosity results it is possible to set optimal production and compa… Show more

“…The increased popularity of warm mix asphalt with foamed bitumen created scientific interest in the properties of foamed bitumen and long-term durability of foamed mixtures. The properties of mineral bitumen mixtures, among other factors, are highly dependent on the composition, temperature and aging history of bituminous binders [21][22][23]. Different approaches to evaluating the foamability of bitumens are known, some originating in the technology of cold mixtures [7,24], while others were investigated in the scope of the properties of warm mixtures [9,24].…”

“…Modern asphalt binder testing procedures, developed during the extensive research carried out during the SHRP program [ 49 ] and in later years [ 50 , 51 , 52 ], yield new parameters that were shown to be in direct relationships with many properties of the resulting asphalt mixtures. It is now known [ 53 , 54 , 55 ] that certain high-temperature properties (G*/sin(δ) and the MSCR characteristics—particularly in case of polymer modified bitumen) of the asphalt binder translate well into the high-temperature properties of the asphalt mixtures.…”

“…Szybki wzrost natężenia ruchu samochodowego oraz coraz większe wymagania użytkowników dróg w Polsce, jak i na świecie przyczyniły się do rozwoju w drogownictwie nowych technologii i modyfikatorów stosowanych jako dodatki do asfaltów drogowych w celu poprawy właściwości użytkowych mieszanek mine-lifetime. Bitumens are thermo-plastic materials with viscoelastic properties and in road pavements they are exposed to traffic loads in various climatic conditions [1,2]. Due to the above, it is necessary to take into consideration the behaviour of asphalt mixes in both low and high service temperatures [3].…”

“…The purpose of this paper is to present the results of testing the ralno-asfaltowych (mma) oraz wydłużenia okresu eksploatacji nawierzchni drogowej. Lepiszcza asfaltowe są materiałami termoplastycznymi o właściwościach lepkosprężystych, a w nawierzchniach drogowych narażone są na obciążenie ruchem w różnych warunkach klimatycznych [1,2]. W związku z tym należy uwzględniać zachowanie się mieszanek mineralno-asfaltowych zarówno w niskich, jak i wysokich temperaturach eksploatacyjnych [3].…”
