Study of the Association of Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) Gene Polymorphism in Iraqi Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder divided into two types, Ulcerative colitis (UC), and Crohnʹs disease (CD). In total, 80 blood samples were collected for this study, 40 blood samples were collected from IBD and 40 blood samples were collected from healthy individuals as. Genomic DNA extracted from whole blood and (FokI) polymorphism was detected by polymerase chain reaction Restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR- RFLP). The results of the statistical analysis showed hi… Show more

“…There are eleven exons in total [20, 21,22] even though many SNPs linked to VDR function have been reported, related studies have largely focused on five frequent SNPs: FokI, Tru9I, BsmI, ApaI, and TaqI, which are usually coinherited as haplotype blocks [23]. Important functional SNPs in the VDR gene are: the FokI (C/T) found at the 5′ end of exon 2 in ch-12 location 47879112 (rs2228570) whereas ApaI G/T in ch-12 at location 47845054 (rs7975232) are found inside intron 8 [24,25,26]. The FokI (C/T allele) polymorphism is an independent marker among many polymorphisms located in the VDR gene.…”
