Study of the Control of Geometric Pattern Using Digital Algorithm (with Focus on Analysis and Application of the Islamic Star Pattern)

Abstract: This paper presents a study to analyze and modify the Islamic star pattern using digital algorithm, introducing a method to efficiently modify and control classical geometric patterns through experiments and applications of computer algorithms. This will help to overcome the gap between the closeness of classical geometric patterns and the influx of design by digital technology and to lay out a foundation for efficiency and flexibility in developing future designs and material fabrication by promoting better u… Show more

“…Bonner [119] classified IGPs systematically into five groups, including 3-4-6-12 systems of regular polygons, the 4-8 system A, the 4-8 system B, the 5-10 system, and the 7-14 system using the tiling-based polygonal technique. Afterward, Lee et al [120] introduced a method to efficiently modify and control Islamic star patterns through experiments and computer algorithms, developing a combination of multiple unilateral polygons based on the basic polygon method.…”

“…Terzidis ( 2006) sheds light on computation, defining it as the process of calculation through mathematical or logical methods. Within this context, computational design emerges as a broad domain encompassing algorithmic design, generative design, and parametric design (Caetano et al, 2020;Gradišar et al, 2022;Knippers et al, 2021;Lee et al, 2015;Nasir & Kamal, 2023).…”

“…[19] Besides, this will help overcome the gap between classical patterns and the flow of digital future design to enhance a better understanding of various modern methods to control the geometrical of muqarnas. [20] Accordingly, computational programs are tools, which help produce an actual form for visualizing, improving the muqarnas design quality, and overcoming muqarnas complexity. Recently, digital programs have emerged to contribute to the solution of this complexity and create new forms of muqarnas.…”

“…Thus, the application of mathematical formulas in the design of construction can be used effectively to control design by utilizing computational technology with traditional heritage, and we can implement muqarnas modification processes through digital algorithm steps. [20] The research shows how to form-finding of muqarnas, which is derived from chart muqarnas, through the conversion process. This process is divided into two parts.…”
