Study of the etiopathogenesis and differential diagnosis of oral vascular lesions by immunoexpression of GLUT‐1 and HIF‐1α

Abstract: Histological features are not sufficient to establish the correct diagnosis of oral hemangiomas, and an accurate anamnesis is essential in these cases. In addition, these findings demonstrate that vascular lesions express mediators of angiogenesis, HIF-1α, and suggest that his process may play a role in the pathogenesis of vascular.

“…Erythrocytes served as positive internal controls. 8,9 Digital Analysis After immunohistochemistry for GLUT-1, slides of AM, AC, and TG were scanned into high-resolution images using the Aperio Scanscope CS Slide Scanner and digitally scored, as described previously. 10 Digital images were analyzed with Pixel Count V9 algorithm (Aperio Technologies Inc, Vista, CA).…”

“…Unfortunately, information from the literature relating to the frequency of oral benign mucosal tumors is uncommon. Studies relating to benign tumors of the oral mucosa have been published in the literature, focusing on clinico-pathologic correlations of lipoma variants ( 2 - 5 ), salivary gland tumors ( 6 - 9 ), hemangiomas ( 10 - 12 ), neural ( 13 - 14 ) and other soft tissue mucosal tumors ( 15 - 21 ). Most of these do not relate directly to the clinical appearance and rate of ulceration of the tumors but rather, describe oral mucosal benign tumors as swellings or raised lesions.…”

“…Different response to therapy of fingernail vs. toenail lesions and of nail bed vs. lateral nail fold location may be due to different expression of tissue markers, which we will possibly evaluate in further studies, using biopsy and immunohistochemistry. 5 Looking at propranolol efficacy according to PG aetiology, the effectiveness of the drug seem high in frictional PGs and in drug-induced PGs of the fingers, while it seems poor in druginduced PGs of the toes and in PGs due to nail ingrown.…”
