Study on the Properties of LDPE/POE/Zeolite Molecular Sieves Composite Film

Abstract: By means of melt blending process in a co-rotating twin screw extruder with two-step process, the low density polyethylene (LDPE)/ethylene octene copolymer (POE)/zeolite molecular sieves (ZMS) composites were prepared. The influence of ZMS on the crystallinity, mechanical properties and permeability was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), universal testing machine and permeability tester, respectively. The results showed that the addition of ZMS made the crystallinity of composite film decr… Show more

“…There are various reports that incorporation of zeolites increases gas permeability of packaging films because of their selective permeability of gases by means of their crystalline porous threedimensional framework structure. [13][14][15] Tazetut W masterbatch contains natural and synthetic zeolite minerals that can adsorb ethylene. It has been reported that zeolite minerals may cause micropores in polymer/zeolite composite films.…”

“…Therefore, zeolites have been used in many industrial and agricultural applications, including as an ethylene‐absorbing additive incorporated into packaging films. There are various reports that incorporation of zeolites increases gas permeability of packaging films by means of their crystalline porous‐3‐dimensional framework structure (Süer and others ; Kittur and others ; Zhao and others ). Esturk and others () successfully applied low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) bags with ethylene absorber (8% Tazetut® master batch, an inorganic product containing 50% of various alumino‐silicate minerals (zeolite)) to broccoli florets under passive MA and stored at 4 °C for 20 d. The authors stated that spoilage occurred quickly in unpackaged broccoli (control) illustrated by chlorophyll degradation, stem‐hardening, and mass loss of 41.5% on day 20, which was less than 1% for packaged applications.…”
