“…Lithics ( This similarity among Zeolite Intervals II through V supports the geochemical evidence that they behave in a very similar manner regarding sorptive retardation (Daniels et al 1982). This in turn supports the conclusion that overall retardation at Yucca Mountain can ultimately be modeled on the basis of petrologic subdivisions such as those defined in pages 4 and 5.…”

“…[8], who emphasized that Cs is partitioned into analcime during crystallization and is not subject to later exchange. However, we note here the affinity of Cs for mordenite in these samples (Table II), and suggest that mordenite is susceptible to Cs exchange, with an empirical Rd of about 4200 in Y8 (3 times the calculated Kd in Daniels et al [9]). Samples in which glass is extensively replaced by clinoptilolite (especially Y7 matrix) have as little as 2.5 ppm Cs, compared to relatively unaltered Y7 vitrophyre that has 4.7-6.0 ppm Cs.…”

“…The large sorption ratios of these anions on tuffs, as measured in our laboratory, 10 preclude their transport as dissolved species. We might anticipate that colloid-sized particles could carry either of these radionuciides over the 91-ni distance between the two wells.…”
