125Te and 19F NMR spectroscopic study of the hydrolysis of pentafluorotellurium chloride: evidence for trans- and cis-HOTeF4Cl and cis, mer-(HO)2TeF3Cl

Abstract: . Can. J. Chem. 67, 1501 (1989).The hydrolysis of TeF5CI has been followed by '25Te and ' 9~ NMR spectroscopy. The spectra show that the known series (HO),TeF6-, (n = 2-6) are present. In addition the spectra are consistent with the presence of the previously unreported series (HO),TeF5-,Cl (n = 1-3) as well as unidentified fluorotellurium(1V) species. Evidence is presented for the new species trans-and cis-HOTeF4C1 and cis, mer-(HO)2TeF3C1. The course of the hydrolysis of TeF5Cl is compared with that of SF5Cl… Show more

“…The first band is divided into two components centered around −23 ppm (T1) and −49 ppm (T2), respectively, with the former being more prominent. These chemical shift values are consistent with literature values for Te-bonded F species, previously assigned to δ iso ( 19 F) = −27 ppm in a toluene solution of TeF 4 and δ iso ( 19 F) = −45 ppm for TeF 5 Cl. , Components Z1 and Z2, on the other hand, indicate the involvement of fluorine atoms in an alkaline medium and the presence of Zn–F interactions. Component Z2 can be attributed to a mixed ZnF 2 /NaF environment, with a chemical shift around −204 ppm consistent with the reference value for ZnF 2 and in proximity to the characteristic shift of NaF (−220 ppm). , The calculated area of each deconvoluted component suggests a trend of increasing Te–F interactions with the fluorine content, attributable to the high TeO 2 molar concentration (75 mol %). Additionally, for the TZNF30 sample, an increase in the area of component Z2 is observed, which aligns with the higher amount of ZnF 2 .…”

“…This behavior not only confirms the effectiveness of fluoride addition as an efficient strategy for producing oxide glasses with low OH content but also highlights the promising potential of these matrices as host materials for mid-IR lasers and optical amplifiers. Moreover, when combined with the favorable characteristics of tellurite glasses, including good thermal stability and high RE 3+ solubility, these fluoride-modified glasses become even more suitable for such applications. …”

“…With Te(CH 3 ) 2 as a reference, the highest 125 Te signal is found at 544 ppm for [TeF 6 ], while the lowest is found for [Te(OH) 6 ] at 707 ppm, thus showing IED. Also, by 19 F and 125 Te NMR the 3-fold mixed series, [TeF 5 - n (OH) n Cl], n = 1−3, has been characterized …”

“…Except for some cis/trans isomers of the sulfur compounds, [SF 4 ClR], with organic ligands, R, which have been characterized by 19 F NMR, 228 in group 16 there are only a few octahedral mixed series of Te like [TeF n (OH) 6-n ], n ) 0-6, and [TeF n Cl 6-n ], n ) 1-6. The reaction of [Te(OH) 6 ] with HF 229 and the hydrolysis of [TeF 6 ] and [TeF 5 Cl] 230,231 were studied by 19 F NMR. For the hydrolysis cis stereospecificity was observed.…”
