Survival Rates for Breast Cancer in Iranian Patients: a Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Iranian women. Since development of the disease in Iranian women occurs relatively early, the survival rate matters considerably. In different countries, survival of breast cancer patients varies considerably. Therefore, the one-year, three-year, five-year, and tenyear survival rates for breast cancer in Iran were assessed using a meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was based on valid Iranian sources including … Show more

“…The survival rate of women with breast cancer in the Arab populations was lower than in the non-Arab populations in this Region. In a 2016 meta-analysis conducted in the Islamic Republic of Iran, the pooled 1-, 3-, 5-and 10-year survival rates in women were 95%, 80%, 69% and 55% respectively (31) and in a study from Jordan in 2010 the 1-, 3-and 5-year survival rates were 91%, 70% and 59% respectively (32), confirming the result of our study. The results of some studies indicate that Arab women with breast cancer may have a worse prognosis than other populations (33,34).…”

“…5,6 Studies conducted in Iran's provinces over the past decade have estimated the 5-year survival rate in breast cancer patients to be 48%-87%. 7 These differences may be due to patients' biological, racial/ genetic, geographical, socioeconomic, and cultural differences, and also different treatment options and patients' access to these facilities.…”

“…In addition, the reported cases vary in different areas . Based on the increase in the incidence since 1990 in most countries and its increasing growth, especially at lower ages in Iran and its high treatment costs, the broad controlling programs are necessary to improve, prevent, and recognize the factors affecting the survival and use the health care budget optimally . Thus, this study aimed to investigating the survival rate and possible prognostic factors of the patients with breast cancer in Iran.…”
