Ship recycling, commonly referred to as ship dismantling, is an inherently sustainable practice with global implications. It involves the reverse engineering process of disassembling obsolete ships to recover reusable materials in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. Over the past two decades, ships have predominantly been beached in South Asian countries such as Bangladesh, India, China, and Pakistan, allowing local yards to dismantle vessels with moderate preventive measures and substantial manual labor. Ship recycling stands as a significant and environmentally conscious industry, witnessing the annual recycling of approximately 1000 obsolete ships globally. Currently, this industry is predominantly led by three South Asian countries—India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. In Bangladesh, the industry commenced with the dismantling of stranded ships, evolving into a large and profitable sector that generates substantial employment opportunities for thousands of semi-skilled workers in poverty-prone areas. While the ship recycling industry presents opportunities, it also poses challenges for coastal zone management, encompassing environmental, law enforcement, and worker safety concerns. The surge in demand for ship recycling has prompted increased regulatory scrutiny at both national and international levels. This pressure culminated in the development of the Hong Kong International Convention (HKC) by the IMO in 2009, mandating safety and environmental protection standards at recycling yards. Achieving a perfectly green ship recycling process in line with European standards is inherently costly. However, a viable and almost green ship recycling approach, integrating the current common practice of beaching methods in Asian countries, is entirely feasible. Despite limitations and challenges, the industry significantly contributes to Bangladesh's GDP and the overall socio-economic landscape. Currently, there has been a visible reduction in Bangladesh's market share due to stringent environmental regulations, while competitors have experienced increases. This study represents an analytical effort to evaluate the current global ship recycling scenario, exploring its potential, challenges, and the future trajectory of both local and global ship recycling industries.

This study aims to determine the business strategy used in increasing sales of snail chips at PT.X based on quadrants. The research method used was observation and interviews to get information about the company's Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat to the workforce at PT. X. From each item, we determine the weight, rating, and score of each item. Then the results obtained value is located in quadrant II, with the decision making carried out strength activities to reduce the threats that come. The decision then has alternatives, including 1) increasing cooperation with new collectors to balance the increasing volume of demand and reach more comprehensive consumers; 2) Planning the schedule on time if an increase in demand volume occurs; 3) Competitors with low prices but not superior quality. The conclusion under the objectives is the result of the matrix calculation value is in quadrant II with the type of Strength and Threat decision.

In recent years, the number of shipyards in Indonesia has increased significantly to anticipate the increasing demand and the government policy regarding the Cabotage Principles and Masterplan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia’s Economic Development (MAEIED), and three Archipelagic Sea-Lanes (ASL’s) in Indonesia. However, shipbuilding and ship repair works have been centered in the western part of Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to develop a potential strategy of shipyards in the eastern part of Indonesia to compete in the current market situation. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to model the strategy hierarchy and analyze the weight of sub-criteria as the internal and external factors of the shipyard competitiveness. Then, the Blue Ocean Strategy method was used to analyze the competitiveness strategy. To improve competitiveness, the shipbuilding industries in the eastern part of Indonesia have to focus intensively on reforming and upgrading several internal environment factors such as coordination and response, business network, high skill manpower, and complex ship types building ability. Besides, the shipyards also have to focus on external environmental factors, particularly on five factors that have a high influence on improving competitiveness, namely shipping company partners, networks and partnership with suppliers, government policies, human resource development, and cluster formation of shipyards.
