Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis is one of the most commonly used tools for strategic planning. It helps organizations gain a better insight of their internal and external business environment when making strategic plans and decisions. Although SWOT analysis has been widely accepted as a tool for strategic planning, the traditional method of conducting SWOT analysis does not prioritize and is likely to hold subjective views that may result in an improper strategic action. One way to make better use of the SWOT framework is to take the customer's perspective in to account which helps the companies to ensure that their perceived capabilities are also recognized and valued by their customer. This work proposes a combination of Back Propagation Neural Network based Importance-Performance Analysis (BPNN-IPA) and SWOT analysis. The 'Importance' is derived by applying BPNN on a customer satisfaction survey and 'Performance' is computed as the mean value of customer' s satisfaction rating. The intersection of these two components creates a two-dimensional matrix termed, IPA matrix, which can be identified as strengths and weaknesses of the company. Base on the same principle, opportunities and threats are obtained through the IPA matrix of the company's competitor. The BPNN-IPA yields significant improvement in estimating of attribute importance compared to conventional IPA and regression-based IPA approach, thereby generating effective SWOT analysis. It is expected that this approach will provide more accurate information for strategic planning as it generates prioritized SWOT factors based on the customer's perception.

During the experimental research, an algorithm was developed as a guide for the introduction of solar panels (PV) in centralized heat supply (CHS) companies and a SWOT analysis of the developed algorithm action blocks was performed. SWOT analysis was carried out for a project implemented in practise and, as a result of which the centralized heat supply system uses solar power with a total capacity of 30 kW. We found that in Latvia, the areas that are suitable for solar panels are several times higher than those required by the systems. Main tasks of the work: to analyse and study available literature and information on solar PV integration into CHS; analyse available solar PV power generation equipment and technologies; develop a roadmap for easy and understandable deployment of solar panels in the company.

Legal protection for women environmental activists in urban areas

Men and women have equal rights, duties, and degrees in protecting and fighting for the rights of environment. However, in fact, it is men who dominate most conservation and environmental management activities. Even though, women’s roles in environmental conservation activities are also no less great than men’s given their high sense of empathy and care for the environment. This makes women taking more actions to protect the environment itself, but they often get so many threats, physical harass, even murder threats from those who feel threatened by their actions; and it already happened for a long time, and it still does until now. This should be overcome as soon as possible to prevent more women be the next victim. This research used SWOT analysis to determine the strategies for protecting women environmental activists in urban areas. The SWOT calculation results indicate that there is a need for progressive rules in guaranteeing women’s rights so as to be able to engage in the process of environmental conservation in their respective regions.
