Synthesis and Characterization of an Antioxidative Galactomannan–Iron(III) Complex from Sesbania Seed

Abstract: Galactomannan, a water-soluble polymer in the cell wall of leguminous plants, has been proven to possess anticancer and antioxidative activity. In this work, galactomannan with different molecular weights (GM-40 and GM-65) was obtained from Sesbania seeds and synthesized into galactomannan–iron(III) complexes, which are termed as GM-40-Fe and GM-65-Fe, respectively. These galactomannan–iron(III) complexes are intended to function as organic iron supplements to treat iron deficiency with the added benefit of an… Show more

“…Recent studies on polysaccharide–Fe(III) complexes indicated that the −OH and −COOH groups were bound to Fe 3+ . 24 , 37 , 38 Therefore, it was speculated that −OH and −COOH groups in the pectin chains acted as a bridge to connect Fe 3+ in the AP–Fe(III).…”

“…In addition, the AP–Fe (III) complex comprised a β-FeOOH structure, which was obtained by comparison with the standard spectrum. Recent studies on polysaccharide–Fe(III) complexes indicated that the −OH and −COOH groups were bound to Fe 3+ . ,, Therefore, it was speculated that −OH and −COOH groups in the pectin chains acted as a bridge to connect Fe 3+ in the AP–Fe(III).…”

“…Different components in plants are a rich source far from being well utilized ( Si et al, 2008b , 2009a ; An et al, 2019 ; Du et al, 2019 ; Li et al, 2019 ; Liu et al, 2020a ; Liu H. et al, 2021 ; Liu K. et al, 2021 ), and chemical constituents from plants demonstrate various significant bioactivities ( Si et al, 2008a , 2009b , 2013a ; Huang et al, 2018 , 2019 ; Liu et al, 2020b ). The present study indicates that 60% EtOH extracts from ASFT or oregonin treatment prevents oxidative stress-induced apoptosis and ameliorated DHT-mediated hair loss signaling ( Figure 12 ) in different dose ranges between each material.…”

“…Galactomannan is a polysaccharide constituted of mannose and galactose. Several studies have shown that galactomannans can be found in various types of plants, such as Licium barbarum L. [16], Caatinga biome [17], coconut meat and its waste [18], Crotalaria mucronate seeds [19], Ceratonia siliqua [20], sugar palm fruit [21], Sesbania seeds [22], and mesquite seeds (Prosopis laevigata) [23]. Based on the studies [20], [21], [23], antioxidant activities in galactomannans were identified.…”
