Synthesis and characterization of single‐wall‐carbon‐nanotube‐doped emeraldine salt and base polyaniline nanocomposites

Abstract: Nanocomposites of polyaniline (PANI) and single‐wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were prepared and characterized via resonance Raman and electronic absorption spectroscopy (ultraviolet–visible/near‐infrared). The chemical synthesis of PANI was performed in the presence of SWNTs in concentrations ranging from 10 to 50 wt % (SWNT/PANI). The obtained materials were hydrophilic, homogeneous composite compounds. The chemical interaction between PANI (in the conducting emeraldine salt form and in the insulating emerald… Show more

“…A preliminary estimation of materials structural morphologies was realized by assuming Flory-Huggins theory [7,8] which predicts that components with similar solubility (δ) parameter should mix; accordingly PANI (δ = 22 (J/cm 3 ) −0.5 ) should mix with both CNTs δ = 28 (J/cm 3 ) −0.5 and (CNTs-PABS (δ = 27 (J/cm 3 ) −0.5 ). Figure 2 illustrates typical morphologies for PANI-CNTs and PANI-CNTs-PABS composite materials, these represent equilibrium structures after a simulation time of 100000 steps, corresponding to a real time of ∼2 µs.…”

“…Os nanotubos de carbono possuem um papel muito importante na confecção de compósitos, geralmente usando nanotubos dispersos em polímeros [75][76][77][80][81][82][83] . Nanotubos de carbono são usados como elementos de reforço e também como elementos fundamentais para a nova geração de tecidos têxteis, os chamados tecidos eletrônicos 78 .…”

“…Thus, it would be interesting to develop PANI and CNT composites that revealed redox activity [18][19][20][21] at neutral pH values due to the doping of PANI with anionic species [22,23], and evaluate the advantages of such core-shell structures for enzymes immobilization. Considering all of those described above, in the present investigation we propose the integration of PANI and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) in the development of an electrochemical biosensor with improved sensitivity towards pesticides detection.…”
