“…The [2 + 3] cyclization−addition reaction of the azomethineylide (generated from Boc−aminoethylglycine and paraformaldehyde) with ester-terminated nanotubes ( 2 ) yielded the SWCNTs grafted with Boc−aminoalkyl chains at the side wall ( 3 ). ,, The FT-IR spectrum again confirmed the formation of 3 (carbamate CO, 1640 cm −1 ; ester CO, 1735 cm −1 ; C−H, 2953 cm −1 ). The reaction of 4-(10,15,20-tritolylporphyrin-5-yl)benzoyl chloride (TTP−COCl) at the amino group of the graft (after Boc removal by CF 3 COOH) afforded the SWCNTs tethering the free-base porphyrin, which were treated with Zn 2+ to yield ZnP−(spacer)−SWCNTs ( 4 ). For the chromatography of ZnP−(spacer)−SWCNTs ( 4 ), the sample dispersion in DMF was filtered through a short (0.50 cm, for instance) pad of silica gel to exclude the unreacted Zn 2+ species.…”
