Targeting canine mammary tumours via gold nanoparticles functionalized with promising Co(II) and Zn(II) compounds

Abstract: TS262 and TS265 are compounds with potential in the treatment of CMTs. NanoTS262 and NanoTS265 demonstrate that such simple nanovectorization via gold nanoparticles shows tremendous potential as anti-cancer formulations, which may easily be expanded to suit other cargo.

“…In human medicine, several nanoparticle-based drugs are registered by the Food and Drug Administration, and others are currently undergoing clinical trials [47]. In veterinary medicine, there are just a few preclinical studies on the use of liposomes and nanoparticles to improve cancer treatment in dogs and cats [48,49]. A few clinical trials of liposomal Dox have been performed on dogs to test their use in humans [26,50].…”

“…Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are promising drug delivery systems with a wide variety of applications regarding imaging, diagnostic, and targeted therapy, exhibiting unique chemical and physical properties. , AuNPs can be delivered systemically, presenting long circulatory half-lives and causing low immunogenic responses . AuNPs have demonstrated the potential to enhance the cell uptake of a variety of compounds and therapeutic moieties, allowing the delivery of increased amounts of active components to the cells. …”

“…The development of new complexes bearing different types of pyrazole-based ligands demonstrated the potential use of these complexes as antiproliferative agents [149]. and TS265 and the application of AuNPs as a drug delivery system to improve the anticancer efficacy of these compounds in a new canine mammary tumor (FR37-CMT) [150]. The same group formulated a multifunctional nanovectorization system using gold nanoparticles to enhance cytotoxic of TS265.…”
