Teamwork Involving Qualitative Data Analysis Software

Abstract: Increasing sophistication of qualitative data analysis software facilitates its use on larger and more complex projects. Yet the way in which its use is operationalized in a team context is underexamined. This article explores the use of NUD*ist Version 6 (N6) in a large-scale evaluation. The way N6 was used in this evaluation was not merely determined by the functions it contains but by a series of pragmatic decisions resulting from the need to manage the complex logistics of a large, multisite team. Such dyn… Show more

“…MacMillan and Koenig [2004], Alexa and Zuell [2000], and Mangaberia et al [2004] discuss the basis of the different types of the CAQADS software. Some other studies have addressed the application of CAQADS software to qualitative data analysis (e.g., [Hwang 2008;Pan et al 2008;Sin 2008;Housley and Smith 2011;Zapata-Sepulveda et al 2011]. It has been noted by many that CAQDASs are not softwares for automatically analyzing the data; they must rather be regarded as computer tools for helping researcher to facilitate the data analysis [Sin 2008;Weitzman and Miles 1995].…”
