Terpenoids from Ligularia virgaurea collected in China: the first example of two bakkane derivatives with an anhydride-type ring C and nineteen new chemical constituents

Abstract: 21 new compounds are isolated, two of them are bakkane‐type sesquiterpenoids bearing an anhydride‐type ring C [(I,II) named virgaureno‐anhydride A and B] which is a previously unknown partial structure.

“…In particular, we still found that litter species of L. virgaurea had a stronger effect on above-ground biomass, plant diversity, and plant functional composition ( Figures 2B , F , H , 3B ). It is probably because litter species of L. virgaurea decomposes more quickly, affecting nutrient dynamics and driving effects that are attributable to phytotoxic compounds ( Liang, 2013 ; Saito et al, 2015 ).…”

“…setchwanensis were 49.6%, 23.3% and 36.1%, respectively, during late April to mid-August. The faster decomposition rates associated with L. virgaurea litter may have facilitated higher light availability for seedlings and released more secondary compounds or toxins to the soil (Saito et al, 2015), which potentially affected the composition of the plant communities (Shi et al, 2018).…”

“…8,9) is discussed based mainly on our recent findings on the isolation of terpenoids. [10][11][12][13] These studies were carried out in collaboration with many scientists, especially Dr. Xun Gong at the Kunming Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Science, and Professors Chiaki Kuroda and Ryo Hanai at Rikkyo University, Japan. Plant samples were collected every year in summer from the end of July until mid-August because they bloom in this season, which makes it easy to determine their names, as performed by Dr. X. Gong.…”
