The association of rate pressure product (RPP) and myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) findings: a preliminary study

Abstract: The study demonstrated that RPP is associated with MPI findings using gated SPECT imaging with dipyridamole stress. However, to confirm this preliminary result, further studies are mandatory.

“…The RPP in humans has been shown to correlate linearly with myocardial work and oxygen consumption. [17][18][19] The RPP has been used to monitor adequacy of resuscitation and recovery of circulation in experimental models studying bupivacaine toxicity and as an indicator of cardiac work or oxygen consumption. 16,[20][21][22] Mechanical ventilation continued with 100% oxygen.…”

“…The rate-pressure product (RPP) was calculated as the product of HR (beats per minutes) and systolic arterial pressure (mmHg) multiplied by 10 −3 , following recommendations. [20][21][22] RPP was included to evaluate the association between the ACE I/D gene polymorphism and heart work during the resistance exercise protocol. RPP is directly proportional to the work performed by the heart and considered to be a useful index of myocardial oxygen consumption during exercise, [23][24][25] which is the most important indicator of the load on the heart.…”

“…Levels of Rate Pressure Product (RPP) in excess of 20000 are commonly associated with angina and myocardial ischemia. 12,13 In this study, mean RPP after intubation in the ETT group was 19213.81±2933.8 and that after LMA insertion was 15801.56±2618.26. Fourteen patients in group I had a RPP>20000, while no patient in group II had a RPP>20000.…”
