The effect of metocurine and metocurine-pancuronium combination on intraocular pressure

Abstract: Maintenance of a normal to low intraocular pressure during ocular surgery is of critical importance. The prime considerations for anaesthetic management include adequate depth of anaesthesia, normal carbon dioxide and arterial oxygen tensions, stable cardiovascular status and avoidance of stimuli likely to raise central venous pressure. Non-depolarizing muscle relaxants are associated with a reduction in intraocular pressure. Metocurine, a non-depolarizing relaxant, formerly known as dimethyltubocurarine, has … Show more

“…In our study we found an increase of CO that correlated with SV (r2 = 0.66) and with HR (r2 = 0.42), suggesting that the increase in CO is due to positive inotropic and chronotropic effects. The recent reintroduction of dimethyltubocurarine (metocurine) into clinical practice has stimulated renewed interest in this drug (30). Metocurine is known to increase CO and SV and to cause a fall in SVR, Table 9 Pulmonarv vascular resistance (mean f s.e.…”
