In recent decades, more and more research has been conducted on the competencies of educators in improving the role of technology in academic activities. These competencies are based on a clear platform of technological knowledge, together with the recognized aspects of vast pedagogical knowledge and rich content knowledge. In such a modern era, the knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge (TPACK) is quite vital in getting the educators ready to turn into qualified educators to cope with the difficulties of the 21st-century. Moreover, it is considered that self-regulation is a significant factor in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) educators’ learning and professional development. In line with the literature, nurturing and boosting self-regulated learning (SRL) capabilities assist individuals to gain complicated knowledge and manage challenging problems in the process of teaching. Consequently, this review makes an effort to inspect teachers’ TPACK growth by enhancing their SRL capabilities in the process of technology-based instruction. In a nutshell, the implications of the present review were presented together with suggestions.

This study aims to determine: 1) student learning independence in online learning, 2) learning models that can be used to foster student learning independence in science learning, 3) appropriate learning resources in fostering student learning independence. The research was conducted on the 6th semester students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, FKIP UNISRI, totaling 29 students. The research method used is descriptive qualitative as an initial needs analysis in designing appropriate learning to foster student learning independence during distance learning. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that 1) The average score of the student learning independence questionnaire was 83.3 where 17.24% was in the good category and 82.76% in the sufficient category. So it can be concluded that student learning independence is not optimal. 2) The appropriate learning model is project-based learning. 3) Learning resources used by students in fostering independent learning include lecture modules, scientific journals, videos, youtube, books, and the surrounding environment

Self-regulated learning (SRL) becomes a crucial part for the success of online classroom activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, studies exploring students’ SRL in the contexts of Malaysian and Indonesian universities are still lacking and remain more empirical evidence. This study aims to examine and compare both university students’ SRL toward online learning activities at the time of global pandemic. The required data are quantitatively collected from 103 undergraduates from University A in Malaysia and 119 college students from University B in Indonesia by using an online questionnaire on students’ self-regulated learning adapted from Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). The sudden shifting from face-to-face interaction to online class instruction is a new learning style and could be challenging, but the finding of this study shows that the students from both universities achieve high mean scores on the SRL questionnaire. This finding indicates that the students have a positive attitude, high academic motivation levels, and good self-learning control over themselves during the online classes. This study contributes to the extension of the current literature about self-regulated learning in higher education context. This study further suggests that teachers could assist students’ self-regulated learning to improve their academic performances by keeping their motivation and engagement, particularly in the time of online classes during COVID-19 pandemic era. Hence, future studies are recommended to investigate the impact of students’ SRL on learning achievement as it can help teachers to enhance students’ performance in online classes.
