The effect of sound with different frequencies on men and women noise annoyance

Abstract: Sound is an effective exogenous factors which affecting human brain processing mechanisms. This research was quasi experimental study that was carried out among 70 students to evaluate the effect of sound frequency on human noise annoyance. Noise annoyance degree was measured during exposure to sound at various frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 and 8000 Hz. Sound.exe software was used to determine the sound with different frequencies and noise annoyance was determined based on the acoustic questionnaire "Ac… Show more

“…To measure the precision, mental arithmetic test was done at time = 0 (starting time, subjective had no exposure to noise) and 45 and 90 minutes after exposure. LabVIEW software with data acquisition (DAQ) card was made by USA National Instrument[ 17 ] was used for the playing of the noises. To equalize the intervention factors, all the participants in the study had the same conditions during the test.…”

“…The white noise that is a random signal having equal intensity at different frequencies was generated by Noise.exe software (28), then recorded and played by a sound player mounted on the ceiling of the chamber. To determine the accuracy of the sound intensity and frequency, sound measurements were performed according to ISO7216 standards using the CELL_450 made in the UK.…”

“…Noise pollution has special physiological effects on sensitive groups such as pregnant women (18). In another study on the effects of sound on the health of outdoor workers such as taxi drivers (19), it was revealed that it created mistakes in the reaction time and sensitive occupations (20), high levels of sound pressure in large and medium cities (21), and occupational hearing loss at low frequencies (22). The noise level in low and high traffic areas in Shiraz city was higher than the standard levels that increases the sleep disorders and decreases the quality of people's life (23).…”
