The Effect of Synthesis Pressure on Properties of Eu-Doped ZnO Nanopowders Prepared by Microwave Hydrothermal Method

Abstract: In the current research, europium doped ZnO nanopowders prepared by a microwave hydrothermal method are investigated. The effects of synthesis pressure on the morphologies, crystal structures, and optical properties of Eu-doped ZnO were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, cathodo-and photoluminescence. From our investigations it can be concluded that the synthesis pressure strongly influences the surface morphology. With the increase of the synthesis pressure from 2 MPa to 10 MPa signi… Show more

“…Zinc oxide nanoparticles doped with iron (ZnO:Fe NPs) were synthesized using microwave hydrothermal technique. Method is well established, relatively inexpensive, biofriendly and industrially scalable, capable of introduction of different foreign ions as functional dopants [2125], into variety of oxides [2628]. Concentration of iron in present nanoparticles was set to 5% molar.…”

“…Furthermore, microwave hydrothermal synthesized oxide nanoparticles, were easily doped with lanthanide ions, for the visible region excitation-emission of luminescence [258][259][260]. Conditions of oxide crystallization in microwave driven hydrothermal process had a strong influence on the product properties [261,262]. Also, phase composition was influenced by post processing of obtained nanoparticles [263,264].…”

“…Then, in the search for luminescence in the visible range, various lanthanide ions were introduced into the matrix. Europium doped ZnO was found to be very sensitive to the conditions of the hydrothermal process, as both size of nanoparticles and defect distribution changed with pressure during synthesis [262]. Also, annealing of ZnO:Eu nanoparticles enhanced europium luminescence [259].…”
