The effect of zinc-carbonate hydroxyapatite versus fluoride on enamel surfaces after interproximal reduction

Abstract: The aim of this study was to qualitatively investigate the effects of a zinc-carbonate hydroxyapatite (Zn-CHA) containing toothpaste on stripped enamel morphology in a pH cycling model in vitro and to compare the efficacy of this toothpaste versus fluoride one which still represent the gold standard to remineralize early enamel lesions. Twenty-one extracted lower incisors underwent to interproximal enamel reduction with metal strips (Horico 80 µm) on both mesial and distal surfaces. They were then sliced into … Show more

“…As the teeth came from different individuals, an initial set-up was made with plasticine in order to ensure that interdental contact points were correct and to determine the interproximal enamel reduction performed. As in other studies of enamel reduction that have evaluated the use of remineralization agents, the quantity of enamel removed from each interproximal surface was of 0.5 mm [7, 8,10]. Reduction was performed using safe-tipped burs at high speed, as this is one of the most widely used and documented techniques in the scientific literature [21,22].…”

“…The use of remineralizing agents such as toothpastes [8,10] and tooth mousses [7,9] has been widely studied. But from the clinical point of view, the use of fluoride varnish could be more effective, given that after interproximal enamel reduction in cases of dental overcrowding, new interdental contact points are soon established, limiting toothpaste and dental cream access to the reduced interproximal surfaces.…”

“…The specimens were immersed in 6mL of the soft drink for 2 min at room temperature before rinsing with deionized water. Four erosive challenges were carried out at 0, 8, 24 and 32 h, hence for a total of 8 minutes ( 16 ).…”

“…Гидроксиапатит (ГАП) -Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 -является основным неорганическим компонентом костной ткани минерализованных тканей человека и животных, вследствие чего он широко используется в различных областях медицины. Он имеет химическое сродство с эмалью зуба, а нано-размеры его частиц открывают новые возможности для реминерализации эмали, а также обладают некоторым отбеливающим эффектом [4].…”
