The objectives of this research were to find out the significant difference of students’ writing achievement after using Instagram and to investigate the students’ perception of using Instagram in writing. The research was conducted among the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung in 2020/2021 academic year. The data were collected by using writing test and questionnaire. The data were collected by using writing tests (pre-test and post-test in the forms of analytical exposition text) and a close-ended questionnaire. The data taken from the test were analyzed by using a Paired Sample T-test and the data collected by using the questionnaire were descriptively analyzed. The result showed that there is a significant difference of students’ writing achievement after the implementation of Instagram. It was also found that students’ perception of the implementation of Instagram was positive. Keywords: Instagram, writing, perception.

The English teaching in a public vocational school of Akomodasi Perhotelan (SMK AP) so far has shown unsatisfactory result. Based on the preliminary study it was found that the writing skill of the tent graders of SMK AP 3 was low. This classroom action research was aimed at improving the students’ writing skill of descriptive text by implementing VAK learning model. In this study 26 students were selected as subjects. This study was completed through one cycle using VAK learning model. The findings revealed that students’ writing scores increased after the researcher implemented the VAK learning model. The average score of the students improved 38.18 points into 81.49 compared to their scores in the preliminary study which was 43.31. Out of 26 students, there were only 7 (26.92%) who failed to achieve the minimum mastery criteria (KKM). It can be inferred from the findings that the VAK learning model succeeded in helping the students to improve their writing’ achievement. The result of this study implies that VAK learning model can be an alternative to improve the students’ writing skill.

This research's objectives were to examine whether Instagram as a Learning Media is useful toward students' writing recount text or not and measuring how significant the effect of Instagram on students’ writing recount text before and after treatment. This quasi-experimental research involved 35 students as participants from two different classes. Researchers took 10th graders from a selected private school in Purbalingga as research samples. Two IPS classes were selected, i.e., X IPS 1 was set as an experimental class, and X IPS 2 was set as a control class. The data were collected from the score of pre-test and post-test after the treatment. Researchers then compared the students’ achievement from control and experimental classes and analyzed the data using descriptive analysis and N-gain. The research findings indicated a significant achievement of students' competencies in using Instagram than conventional learning in writing recount text. The average N-gain score from experimental class and control class obtained 0.308 > 0.057. The Mean score of pre-test in experimental and control class obtained 69.875 > 64.818 and the Mean score of post-test in experimental and control class was 79.461 > 67.142. As a result, the experimental class's mean score was higher than the control class means Instagram as a Learning Media is useful in writing recount text.
