The Effectiveness of Virtual Lab Compared to Physical Lab in the Mastery of Science Process Skills for Chemistry Experiment

Abstract: The aim of the research is to assess the effectiveness of Virtual Lab (experimental group) compared to Physical Lab (control group) in the level of Science Process Skill mastery of topic salt experiment. This research also was done to compare the students’ level of Science Process Skill mastery by gender and to find interaction effect between groups and gender on the level of Science Process Skill mastery. The instrument that used to evaluate the effectiveness is “Science Process Skill mastery test (SPST)”. A … Show more

“…VL can facilitate teacher action and improve student learning outcomes (Jime ´nez, 2019; Eljack et al, 2020). Nevertheless, various registers match our findings that detected no improvement in terms of academic records with VL use, or even that real lab work was better (Ratamun and Osman, 2018); e.g., there were experiences on the synthesis of inorganic compounds that indicate that VL do not improve student competence in chemical manipulation and microscopic analysis (Kurniawati et al, 2019).…”

“…The features contained in the Virtual laboratory program consist of various formats, including text, hypertext, sound, images, animation, video, and graphics [17]. Virtual laboratory includes tutorials, simulations, evaluation, and virtual program laboratory equipped recording systems capable of storing participant data [18]. The content contained in the virtual laboratory consists of text, graphics, simulations, and animations [19].…”

“…These results indicate that students' scientific attitudes are classified as high in the lectures in each of the study programs. Curiosity, as the attitude that emerged highest among the students of the three study programs after environmental studies based on climate change through google classroom, was related to the enthusiasm of students in observing objects in lectures, participating in lectures both on-line or offline lectures to working on assignments given by lecturers (Abdullah et al, 2012;Ratamun & Osman, 2018;Shahid Kazi & Aziz, 2019). Bandaranaike (2018) state that research skills can encourage a novice researcher to be better.…”
