The effects of contextual group guided discovery learning on students' mathematical understanding and reasoning

Abstract: In this study, we examine the effect of contextual group guided discovery (CGGD) learning approach on students' mathematical understanding and reasoning. This study was conducted through a quasi-experimental method with a control group pre and post-test design. The participants of this study were two groups of 4th-grade students in Kuningan, Indonesia. Each group was comprised of 22 students (N=44). While the experimental group was conducting mathematics learning with the CGGD learning approach, the control gr… Show more

“…According to previous studies, Self-Regulated Learning affects learning achievement and Mathematical critical thinking skills. Therefore, following the essentials of mathematics in our daily and future life, mathematics learning should develop the students to be proficient in mathematics as they need to overcome the challenge in the future (Arifin et al, 2020). Daily problems as the topic of learning will make the students more enthusiastic in understanding the Learning (Sari, 2018).…”

“…This is in line with the results of research (Widyastuti & Pujiastuti, 2014), which shows that by using contextual problems in realistic mathematics learning, elementary students' understanding of mathematics is better than using direct learning. In addition, the study results (Arifin et al, 2020) also show that the contextual group-guided discovery (CGGD) learning approach affects mathematical understanding and reasoning. So, it is very suitable when Macromedia flash applications collaborate with a contextual approach in the development process.…”

“…The type of experimental research used by the researcher is a quasi-experimental ( quasiexperimental ). According to Arifin et al (2020) quasi-experimental is a quasi-experiment that aims to predict the state that can be achieved through actual experiments, but there is no control and manipulation of all relevant variables.…”
