The Effects of Isolated Fractions of Red Pepper Capsicum Annuum L. On the Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore and Lipid Peroxidation

Abstract: Fruit proteins, seed proteins and capsaicinoids fractions were isolated from red pepper of Capsicum annum L. plants family and their effects on mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) and lipid peroxidation of rat liver were studied in vitro. Seed proteins did not influence to MPTP; however fruit proteins caused MPTP to open and led to mitochondrial membrane permeabilization. Opening of the MPTP causes massive swelling of mitochondria; capsaicinoids fractions inhibited the swelling process of mitocho… Show more

“…As a result of the depletion of antioxidants caused by the production of free radicals, lipid peroxidation occurs ( Asiwe et al, 2023b ). The permeabilization of the mitochondrial and cytoplasmic membranes caused by severe lipid peroxidation may release MDA, a marker of lipid peroxidation into the bloodstream ( Ishimov et al, 2021 , Mohideen et al, 2021 ). Significantly, ISO-exposed animals had higher level of cardiac MDA whereas receiving GBE treatment resulted in a notable reduction in lipid peroxidation, thus enhancing the cardio protective function.…”

“…It is assumed that mitochondria participate in a «choice» of cell death way (Sudakov et al, 2007). The integration of different mechanisms of cell death predetermines the possibility of mitochondria usage as one of the main objects of cell protection from different death stimula (Asrarov et al, 2015;Ishimov et al, 2015). The complex interaction between nutrients, oxygen, and mitochondria embodies the fundamental evolutionary struggle of eukaryotic life to survive and flourish under continuous and periodic environmental challenges.…”
