The Effects of Microcurrents on Inflammatory Reaction Induced by Ultraviolet Irradiation

Abstract: Abstract. [Purpose] This study examined the effects of microcurrents on inflammatory reactions induced by ultraviolet irradiation. [Subjects and Methods] We recruited 22 subjects and two inflammatory reaction regions were induced on the lumbar region of each subject with ultraviolet irradiation. Microcurrents were applied to one region at a frequency of 5 pps, an intensity of 50 μA, and alternation of no microcurrents were applied to the other region polarity. The irradiated regions were analyzed by at 1 sec i… Show more

“…Using the PB, this study evaluated the Proxywave ® , which consists of 10 MHz of AC and 0.5 V DC. Proxywave ® induces a microcurrent of 100 µA, a signal similar to a biocurrent, which is safe for human applications [19]. The brush is comprised of two parallel electrodes that introduce the wave directly to the teeth.…”

“…Kloth noted that electrical stimulation applied to wounded skin tissues increased angiogenesis and perfusion, which raised the activity of granulation tissues and fibroblasts, thereby promoting wound healing speed 9 ) . Physical therapy approaches to wound healing include HVPCS, microcurrents, low-intensity laser, and ultrasound 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ) . HVPCS has a monophasic twin peak pulse wave form and very short pulse duration and therefore can safely stimulate deep tissues without damage 14 ) .…”
