The Government Subsidy Strategy Choice for Firm’s R&D: Input Subsidy or Product Subsidy?

Abstract: To encourage enterprises to conduct technology innovation, the government needs to formulate appropriate subsidies policy. This paper compares two R&D subsidy policies in a supplier-manufacturer supply chain, in which the manufacturer conducts R&D activity for quality improvement. By means of game theory, we investigate the optimal decisions of the players under the two R&D subsidy policies, that is, input subsidy policy and product subsidy policy. Finally, we compare the profits and welfare to exp… Show more

“…However, little attention has been paid to examining the role of government subsidy on the best choice of water-saving mode for HWC manufacturers. Additionally, subsidy schemes on environmental innovation have been designed from different angles, such as manufacturer's investment cost subsidy (Hou and Sun, 2020) and consumer subsidy (CS) on buying green products (Bian et al, 2020) to encourage investment in emission reduction technologies; output quantity subsidy (QS) to increase production (Zhang et al, 2021), innovative products subsidy for the manufacturer (Liu and Li, 2014) as well as unit resource-saving effort/effect subsidy (Chen and Wang, 2020). Despite the above studies contribute a lot to our research, few have investigated the selection of water-saving modes considering different government subsidy schemes.…”

“…Since in the first stage of the game the domestic firm chooses how much it is willing to invest to enter the foreign market, we decided to introduce a parameter in the demand function of firm D that measures the internationalisation effort made by the domestic firm. To define this parameter, we adapted the model developed by Liu and Li (2014) and considered θ as an indicator of the expense/effort that company D performs ex ante, that is, before starting its internationalisation process.…”
