Drowning is death caused by asphyxia due to the aspiration of fluids into the airways or lungs, resulting in airway obstruction within 24 hours. One of the examinations to establish the diagnosis of drowning victims is a laboratory examination of diatom identification. This research aims to know the morphological description and types of diatoms that live along the Upper, Middle, and Lower Ciliwung Watersheds, to facilitate the identification of drowning victims found in the Ciliwung River. The research design is qualitative descriptive. The data in this study were the results of observations and analysis of Ciliwung river water samples at the Research Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Indonesian Christian University. The study's results found 17 different species at the Katulampa Dam, 19 at the Ciliwung Bridge, and 14 at the Manggarai Sluice Gate. From a total of 22 species of diatoms found, overall, the widest distribution was Nitzschia sp, Navicula sp, Fragilaria sp, and Cyclotella sp. The distribution and types of diatoms found are closely related to current velocity and water discharge, temperature, and river turbidity.

Fitoplankton berperan penting dalam suatu ekosistem perairan karena bersifat autotrof dan juga merupakan sumber pakan alami bagi ikan. Fitoplankton akan saling berinteraksi dengan faktor biotik lainnya untuk membentuk suatu struktur komunitas yang berguna bagi keseimbangan dan keberlanjutan ekosistem. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas fitoplankton di Waduk Cacaban karena struktur komunitas dapat menunjukkan kondisi suatu perairan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui komposisi, kelimpahan, dan keanekaragaman fitoplankton pada tiap stasiun dan jenis fitoplankton yang paling mendominasi di Waduk Cacaban. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat 18 spesies fitoplankton di Waduk Cacaban. Empat divisi fitoplankton yang ditemukan yaitu Chlorophyta sebanyak 8 spesies, Bacillariophyta sebanyak 5 spesies, Cyanophyta sebanyak 3 spesies, dan Charophyta sebanyak 2 spesies. Kelimpahannya masuk dalam kategori sedang, dengan kelimpahan Chlorella sp. tertinggi di stasiun I, III dan IV; dan Microcystis sp. di stasiun II dan V. Indeks keanekaragamannya berkisar antara 1,227-1,766 dan masuk kedalam kategori rendah yang menunjukkan kestabilan komunitas rendah. Indeks Dominansi berkisar antara 0,648-0,791 dan masuk dalam kategori tinggi. Jenis fitoplankton yang mendominasi di Waduk Cacaban adalah dari divisi Chlorophyta, yang juga merupakan jenis yang digemari ikan.

A marine microalga, Nannochloropsis sp., was discovered in a water body in Teluk Cempedak, Kuantan, Pahang. In Nannochloropsis sp., for biomass and lipid synthesis, POME was used as a substitute medium. The isolated monoculture was grown in various concentrations of POME (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%), as well as a standard control medium. Nannochloropsis sp. showed greater cell growth at 10% POME, with a maximum dry biomass of 1.504 g L-1 and extracted 35.9% lipid after 14 days of flask cultivation. Fatty acids namely oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid were shown to be prominent in GC-MS analysis. The fatty acid oleic acid has been discovered to be the most abundant (73.40%). POME has the prospective to be used as a growth media for the cultivation of microalgae Nannochloropsis sp.
