“…A new soy-lecithin adjuvant, Providean-AVEC®, was used by Mansilla et al (77) in the development of a vaccine against neosporosis. This adjuvant, which contains β-glucans from barley and yeast and a soluble extract from Chenopodium quinoa whole seeds, has demonstrated to completely limit the multiplication of the parasite causing the pathogenesis, to activate DCs and to enhance cellular responses when formulated with soluble N. caninum antigens (SNcAg) and s.c. administered to mice (77), encouraging its use against this parasite. In a follow-up study, Mansilla et al (78) demonstrated that the vaccine formulation containing Providean-AVEC® + SNcAg stimulated broad cellular and humoral immune responses against N. caninum in cattle.…”

“…The majority of recent work on the control of N. caninum has focused on vaccine approaches, including inactivated whole vaccines (Rojo-Montejo et al 2011), the use of sub-unit native (Moore et al 2011;Mansilla et al 2012) and recombinant N. caninum antigens (Hemphill et al 2013;Uchida et al 2013) and live vaccine approaches with a naturally attenuated isolate of N. caninum (Williams et al 2007;Rojo-Montejo et al 2013;Weber et al 2013). Prophylactic treatment with monensin (Vanleeuwen et al 2010(Vanleeuwen et al , 2011 to reduce the risk of abortion has also been investigated.…”
