The Impact of Locoregional Treatment on Survival of Patients With Primary Metastatic Breast Cancer

Abstract: The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of primary tumor locoregional treatment (surgery or/and radiotherapy) on overall survival in patients with primary metastatic breast cancer (PMBC). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 295 wo men aged from 23 to 76 years with PMBC. Among the 295 patients, the effect of locoregional treatment of primary tumor on survival outcomes was evaluated in 177 women with distant metastases at diagnosis of breast cancer. 35 patient received breast surg… Show more

“…Due to this heterogeneity, prognostic features and treatment options for patients with BM should be carefully investigated on an individual basis. Although there is still controversy for the palliative treatment for BM patients with poor prognosis, multidisciplinary palliative therapy must be administered to increase the OS rates of patients with good prognosis ( 28 ).…”

“…Main evidences of SAT effectiveness for BCBM treatment were obtained in patients with extracranial metastases, but the extracranial spread is known as more frequent cause of death than intracranial progression. [4]. The studies investigating the SAT efficacy in patients with BCBM demonstrate the response rate ranged from 4% to 38% and in some cases above 65% [12].…”

“…The prognosis determination is of importance for decision making in BCBM treatment. In patients with a poor prognosis, the appropriateness of anticancer therapy is debatable, and in patients with a good prognosis, multimodal palliative care can increase survival rates [4]. Moreover, disease prognostic scales can be used for improving the applicability, objectivity and validity of the results of clinical trials studying the treatment efficacy of BCBM.…”

“…Over the past decades, approach to breast cancer treatment has been changing dynamically, but with surgical intervention remaining the leading one. The purpose of surgical treatment is to achieve control of the disease, prevent loco-regional recurrence and increase the survival rate of patients even in patients with primary metastatic breast cancer (2). A modern treatment strategy for breast cancer patients is becoming highly complex, requiring a multidisciplinary approach.…”
