The purpose of this generic qualitative inquiry was to describe parents and educators’ attitudes toward the sustainability of music education in elementary schools in a low-income rural area. Sources for this research included interviews, focus groups, and observations. Participants were principals, parents, and teachers from four elementary schools and three parent-teacher organizations (PTOs) in a small district in a low-income rural area in the southeast United States. Data were analyzed through open coding to describe details on maintaining music in this elementary school. The themes emerged were reasons for supporting music education in elementary schools and principals’ leadership in overcoming economic challenges in music education. Findings indicated that efforts to maintain music in a school program are motivated by the evident impact on students’ academic performance and everyday activities. The results confirmed that educators’ determination and leadership skills are the support for music in the school curriculum.

Body percussion has emerged strongly in the last decades and not all quality information has been indexed in primary databases. The aim of this work was to present a bibliometric study on body percussion that agglomerated the main international documents from 2001 to 2021 found exclusively in secondary scientific-academic databases and that could serve as a starting point for new research on this discipline. A sample of n=128 documents extracted from Dialnet, Redalyc, DOAJ and specific search engines was selected. An ex post facto retrospective design and a frequency analysis in Microsoft Excel of the main bibliometric variables were used. As main results, it was observed that Spain and Spanish are the most productive country and the preferred language of publication, being 2019 the most prolific year, and the book chapter the most representative document. First-order papers, non-intervention papers, publication of a single paper per author and solo publication predominate. A single exclusive research group on body percussion was found in the line of possible cognitive stimulation and executive functions captained by the most significant author of the study, Francisco Javier Romero-Naranjo. In the intervention works, the quantitative approach prevails, through the BAPNE activities as methodology, the action-research design, the application of the intervention without control group (experimental only), the evaluation after the intervention (posttest only), and the questionnaire as evaluation instrument.

Resumen. El objetivo del presente trabajo es realizar un análisis cinemático de los movimientos básicos de la metodología empleando la percusión corporal en las ciencias de la actividad física y el deporte. Para ello, se ha utilizado la metodología de video y fotogrametría, filmando a una participante ejecutando dichos ejercicios, a través de la utilización del programa kinovea. Los ejercicios analizados se realizaron con el tren superior las palmas (P), palmas-tórax (P-T), palmas-piernas (P-P), chasquidos (C), y con el tren inferior cuadrado (CD) y triángulo (T). Los resultados obtenidos son P (Extensión del codo 109°; Vp 1’64m/s), P-P (Rotación externa del hombro 23°; interna 67°; Vp 2’13m/s), P-T (Abducción de hombro 15°; flexión de codo 61°; Vp 1’78m/s), C (Flexión de hombro 15°; Vp 1’47m/s), CD (flexión de rodilla 138 y Vp 0’94m/s) y T (flexión de rodilla 128 y Vp 0’99m/s). Concluyendo que son aptos para cualquier tipo de población ya que no son movimientos nocivos ni agresivos. A través de la obtención de la velocidad se pueden aplicar nuevas metodologías de enseñanza-aprendizaje, en especial para las personas mayores.
