The liquid culture filtrates of Paecilomyces tenuipes (Peck) Samson (=Isaria japonica Yasuda) and Paecilomyces cicadae (Miquel) Samson (=Isaria sinclairii (Berk.) Llond) regulate Th1 and Th2 cytokine response in murine Peyer's patch cells in vitro and ex vivo

“…[28][29][30] We previously reported that intestinal lymphoid cells from mice injected orally with culture fluid from entomogenous fungus, Paecilomyces tenuipes, selectively induced Th1 cytokines (IL-2 and IFN-g) production, and the culture fluid has the potential of a therapeutic or preventive agent for allergy. 31) Thus, it is possible to suggest that the mechanism by which PSE and PA decrease the levels of both IgE and total IgG1 is in part due to an induction of Th2-depolarization. Furthermore, it is also shown that oral administration of GP and AP reduced the IL-4 level without any significant affect on IFN-g, which may explain why the suppressive effects of these polyphenols are weaker than those of PSE and PA.…”

“…10,11) In our previous report, liquid culture filtrates of an entomoparasitic fungus, Paecilomyces tenuipes (ϭIsaria japonica YASUDA) (PTCF), selectively stimulated intestinal T cell immune responses, and the active constituent was identified as a glycoprotein-rich fraction. 12) Furthermore, the glycoprotein also enhanced myeloid growth factors, such as GM-CSF, in cultured Peyer's patch cells in response to concanavalin A. 12) In the present study, we investigated whether PTCF and its main ingredient glycoprotein from the PTCF recovers anemia in 5-FU-treated mice.…”
