The mediating effects of metacognition and creative thinking on the relationship between teachers' autonomy support and teachers' self‐efficacy

Abstract: A bulk of research has shown strong relationships between metacognition, creative thinking, autonomy support, and self‐efficacy among teachers. However, we could not find research with a large sample of teachers exploring the mediating effects of creative thinking and metacognition on the relationship between autonomy support and self‐efficacy. A need for a novel structural equation model (Covariance‐based) underlying psychological rationality of said relationships was deemed actual. To that end, firstly the e… Show more

“…In short, teacher self-efficacy reveals itself the self-confidence of him/her that he/she can overcome the obstacles that may arise in the way of students for the purpose of achieving the goals planned in the education process ( Tabancalı and Çelik, 2013 ). In the meanwhile, the determinant of the teacher’s behavior in the classroom can be explained to be related to the teacher’s “self-efficacy” perceptions ( Orakcı and Durnalı, 2022 ).…”

“…In turn, self‐efficacy is known to be fostered through learners' development of metacognitive skills (Costa Brojato & Labatut Portilho, 2023), in particular, skills related to planning and evaluation of learning. Therefore, it follows that TCs' beliefs are best addressed when they have opportunities to surface and examine unconscious metacognitive strategies (Costa Brojato & Labatut Portilho, 2023; Orakci & Durnali, 2022). TCs' engagement in metacognitive thought supports TCs to develop awareness and control of their knowledge about SRLPPs, in turn fostering their motivation and self‐efficacy (Goksu, 2021).…”

“…The development of students' creative thinking abilities is crucial in piano teaching. Literature [13], to explore the mediating role of creative thinking between autonomy support and self-efficacy, constructed a structural equation model based on covariance, and verified the mediating effect of creative thinking in teaching behavior through statistical analysis. Literature [14] proposed a hypothetical model oriented towards the utility played by creative thinking in music composition and creation, combining data collection from audio files and semi-structured interviews, and argued that the hypothesis was valid using statistical methods.…”
