The CES-D comprises four aspects: depressed affect (blue, depressed, lonely, cry, sad-items 1,3,6,9,10,14,17,18); positive affect (good, hopeful, happy, enjoy-items 4, 8, 12, 16); somatic and retarded activity (bothered, appetite, effort, sleep, get going-items 2,5,7,11,13,20); interpersonal (unfriendly, dislike-items 15 and 19).
