The Neutron-Gamma Pulse Shape Discrimination Method for Neutron Flux Detection in the ITER

Abstract: The neutron flux monitor (NFM), as a significant diagnostic system in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), will play an important role in the readings of a series of key parameters in the fusion reaction process. As the core of the main electronic system of the NFM, the neutron-gamma pulse shape discrimination (n-γ PSD) can distinguish the neutron pulse from the gamma pulse and other disturbing pulses according to the thresholds of the rising time and the amplitude pre-installed on the … Show more

“…Add a supplement phase β to the reference sine and cosine wave: sin(ω 0 t+θ+β) and cos(2ω 0 t+2θ+ 2β). To make sure the measured amplitudes M 1 and M 2 are stable, the entire adjustment process takes 1 s to finish in FPGA [17]. Figure 3 shows the analysis process of the synchronous demodulation system based on the PCI Express eXtension for Instrumentation (PXIe) bus.…”

“…As common to-be-measured particles, neutrons usually exist together with γ and other background noises. Thus, n-γ discrimination [7][8][9] becomes an important diagnostic demand in the HL-2M. The shape of the pulse signal can be depicted with many parameters, such as amplitude, rise time and fall time.…”
