The Problem Solving Learning Model by Using Video Recording on Experiments of Kinematics and Dynamics to Improve the Students Cognition and Metacognition

Abstract: This research aimed to improve studentss cognition and metacognition through kinematics and dynamics of particle experiment assissted by video recording and tracker software analysis. The research used problem solving learning model which developed using R & D method with 4-D steps, they are define, design, develop, and disseminate. The research involved 86 physics education students academic year 2013/2014 at one of the universities in Medan. The research method is quasi-experimental using randomized cont… Show more

“…The learning model developed is a problem solving based lecture model based on the Simanjuntak's framework (2012) which is used to improve meta-cognition skills. The application of this model is able to improve student cognition and meta-cognition on the topic of Kinematics and Dynamics in the medium category (Mariati, et al, 2017). This model consists of five phases: Phase 1 Orientating students on problems; Phase 2 Organizing students to study; Phase 3 Guiding a problem-solving based investigation individually and in groups, Phase 4 Developing and presenting the results of the investigation, Phase 5 Strengthening and following-up to learning.…”

“…Some of the learning experiences include self-reflection, problem solving activities, and preparation of scientific articles. These various lecturing activities are also reported could improve metacognitive abilities [40]- [42]. However, only a handful of Pre-service teachers can provide precise examples of metacognition-based learning, both based on teaching experience and their learning experience.…”
