The propagation of noise in a built-up area (on the example of a housing estate in Poznań)

Abstract: The issue of the negative impact of noise on the natural environment is frequently ignored (in spite of its universality), in particular as regards urban and heavily built-up areas. The research presented herein was concerned with a housing estate located in Poznań (Poland). Its area totals approximately 0.55 km 2. The area contains structures covered by acoustic protection (multifamily building development and multi-family residential development). Noise level measurements were performed at designated points.… Show more

“…In Europe, the utilisation of 3D city models for this application surged after the implementation of the Environmental noise Directive 2002/49/EC [237] which requires EU countries to produce strategic noise maps in order to inform the public about noise exposure and its effects [238,239]. While 2D GIS is frequently used for this purpose [76], 3D geoinformation provides an advantage over it, as due to refraction, sound levels may considerably variate at different elevations of the same planar coordinates [240].…”

“…While measuring the sound level, it's also important to notice the dynamics of the analyzed areas. Many authors pay attention to this [1,8,9,12]. The park is used differently depending on the time of a day or a year.…”

“…Estimation of the propagation of noise is another use case that has been used in valuation activities. In noise analysis, 3D data provides an advantage over 2D data due to the refraction of sound level at different elevations (Kubiak and Ławniczak, 2016). There are some studies investigating the relationship between house prices and noise with 2D data.…”
