The study aims to discover lexical metaphors in Westlife's selected song lyrics. Specifically, it was to reveal the types and source domains of the metaphors. Swear It Again, If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings, I Have a Dream, and Fool Again, which are the legendary boy band's most popular songs according to TraxFM (2017), were selected as the data sources. The study applied the qualitative descriptive method, the study focused on exploring the nature of the study object as proposed by Kothari (2004). Since the phenomena investigated are metaphors in song lyrics, the study adapted Schmitt's (2005) concept of metaphor analysis. The study's data are all metaphors in the five songs of Westlife (Swear it Again, If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings, I Have a Dream, and Fool Again), which TraxFM (2017) considers as the boy band's best songs ever. The data MIP-Praglejazz was employed to identify the metaphors in those selected song lyrics. The study found: (1) the selected song lyrics contained 15 structural, 24 ontological, and only two orientational metaphors; (2) Most of the metaphors have a concrete thing as their source domain, such as living thing, traveler, place, flame, sunrise, container, bird, and object. It can be inferred that: (1) the song lyrics are dominated by ontological and structural metaphors, and (2) the metaphors are mainly constructed of concrete concepts, which humankind are so familiar with in their daily life. Detailed findings will be presented, and their implications will be discussed.

This research was conducted to examine the impact of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) and Direct Learning (DL) model on the learning outcomes of students in rural areas concerning English descriptive text composition. The models introduced a meaningful learning experience within conventional classroom settings, enabling students to connect prior knowledge with new information in creating innovative ideas. TPACK model played an essential role in the educational system, facilitating teachers in integrating technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge throughout the instructional process. Therefore, students became more engaged, active, and enthusiastic participants in their learning. An authentic experimental and control group design was carried out in two parallel classes at a senior high school. Meanwhile, ANOVA Factorial (2-way ANOVA) was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the learning outcomes of TPACK were significantly different from those of the DL group. Therefore, TPACK substantially affected the learning outcomes of students in writing English descriptive text. This research reported the valuable contribution of the model in equipping future teachers with the knowledge necessary to integrate content, learning theories, teaching models, methods, and technology into their instructional practices.

Problems with meaning arise when symbols interact in digital communication on social media between users. Different messages may be interpreted differently due to symbolic exchanges between social media users. This paper examines how message meaning relates to current social media challenges. The data used to address the issue was obtained from an online survey of social media users, and the semiotics method was employed (denotation and connotation). This study concludes that people who utilize social media have a higher propensity to read the news and become more authentic by sharing it. To read social media text messages denotatively has ideological consequences for users and connotative implications. Social media messaging's ideological impact creates the purpose of action (change of view on an issue, for example, COVID-19 vaccination). This paper contributes to digital media literacy, which develops critical thinking abilities based on digital knowledge by choosing to read news content. Besides, this paper contributes to the capacity to critically create content based on digital culture (positive news content) and offer critical commentary based on digital ethics (politeness in providing language). This article discusses the benefits and importance of news content comments and the ability to share news content critically based on digital safety by safely evaluating information before sharing it.
