Background With the rapid changes in the social environment, adolescents are facing increasing academic pressure and challenges to their physical and mental development in the socialization process. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence mechanisms of parental participation on adolescent behavioral development (learning persistence, expressive language ability and knowledge absorption ability), revealing the mediation role of adolescent positive and negative peer interactions between parental participation and behavioral development, and whether differences in parents and children’s educational expectations moderate this process. Methods This study was measured using the Parental Participation Questionnaire, Peer Interaction Questionnaire, Behavioral Development Scale, and Educational Expectancy Gap from the China Education Panel Survey. A total of 7730 seventh-grade students and their parents were invited to participate, to establish a moderated mediation model, and the significance of the mediation effect was tested using the bias-corrected percentile Bootstrap method. Results (1) High frequent parental participation has a significant positive effect on adolescent behavioral development, including behavioral participation, emotional participation, and educational participation all exerting varying degrees of positive influence, as well as positively influencing adolescents’ peer interactions. (2) Positive and negative peer interactions play the mediation role of 12.3% and 2.5% respectively in the process of parental participation affecting adolescent behavioral development. (3) Comparing “educational expectation gap - equal”, the “educational expectation gap - high” negatively moderates the effect of parental participation on adolescent behavioral development and positive peer interaction (inhibitory effect), the “educational expectation gap - low” positively moderates the effect of parental participation on negative peer interaction (facilitation effect), which meant that the “educational expectation gap - equal” between parents and children is a more desirable state. Conclusion These findings provide empirical support and effective operational suggestions to further promote positive adolescent behavioral development. Particularly for developing countries, it is recognized that positive parental participation and peer interaction, as well as equal educational expectation of parents and children, are protective factors for adolescent development.

Bibliometric analysis is the mapping of research research trends by processing metadata from Google Scolar. The aim is to find out research trends in applied mathematics. The research was conducted on April 30, 2021 through searching the Google Scholar database with the keywords applied mathematics with the publication name journal and the maximum number of results is 500 journals as a sample. Metadata retrieval using the Publish or Perish (POP) application version 7.31. The PoP data were then analyzed descriptively based on the publication year, publisher name, researcher productivity, and journal ranking. To get an accurate map of research developments, PoP data is exported to Exel CSV and Result as RIS file formats. The CSV data was created in a pivot table and the RIS data was analyzed using the VOSViewer (VV) application. The results of the research show that the number of publications of research results in the years 2005-2021 has fluctuated and is mostly published in Elsevier. The most prolific foreign researcher in publishing research results is Biher Bist with 14 articles. The VV visualization shows that the map of the development of applied mathematics research is divided into 5 clusters. Cluster 1 consists of 27 topics, cluster 2 consists of 15 topics, cluster 3 consists of 10 topics, cluster 4 consists of 7 topics, and cluster 5 consists of 3 topics with the most research covering mathematics, paper, problem, solution, system, university, department, science.

The thesis focuses on the influence of friends on multiple measures of students' educational aspirations in Hungarian primary schools before students are distributed to stratified tracks. The dissertation discusses and examines various mechanisms through which friends can influence students' aspirations, such as the adaptation to norms, values, and attitudes shared by friends and the potential effect of having access to the educational resources of friends' parents. The dissertation also considers the contribution of friendship selection to friends' similar aspirations. 1. The first empirical chapter of the dissertation examined the effects of social influence and selection on academic ambitions and achievement in two school subjects: Hungarian literature and mathematics. Using longitudinal social network models, the analysis disentangled social influence on academic ambitions from friendship selection based on academic ambitions. The study found that changes in adolescents' academic ambitions were related to the ambitions of their friends. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying the tendency towards similarity were slightly different for the two subjects. In Hungarian literature, the attractiveness of friends with high ambitions was more pronounced than that of friends with low ambitions, while the opposite process was observed in mathematics. Academic achievement seemed to be a relevant attribute for friendship selection, but only in Hungarian literature. 2. The second empirical study investigated the influence of friends on the secondary school track preferences of Hungarian adolescents. The results indicated that peers could influence the adjustment of adolescents' educational preferences through their parental resources, as having friends with at least one parent with a tertiary education could motivate students to adjust their preferences towards the grammar school track. The average preferences of friends did not have a direct positive effect on preferences for the grammar school track, while having friends who preferred the vocational secondary school track had a negative effect on students expressing the same preferences. 3. The third empirical study examined whether students' preferences for the grammar school track in their secondary school applications were associated with the preferences of their friends and classmates by applying Generalized Structural Equation Models. The results indicated that students' own preferences for the grammar school track were negatively associated with the proportion of friends and classmates who preferred the grammar school track in their applications. Friends' previous preferences were positively associated with students' preferences in their applications, but only when friends' preferences in their applications were also taken into account. On the whole, the results did not provide sufficient support for the positive association between friends' educational preferences. 4. Overall, the results suggest that friends' aspirations may have a positive effect on aspirations regarding school grades, i.e., aspirations that have immediate consequences and are not bound by external limits. The differences in social influence and social selection between the school subjects studied underscore the importance of studying academic motivation as a domain-specific concept. With regard to aspirations expressed as preferences for secondary school tracks, the negative effects may be explained by perceived constraints that prevent or encourage individuals from having certain aspirations or dreams for themselves. The contribution of friends' parental background to the development of students' educational preferences highlights that schools are social institutions where social networks play an important role alongside formal education.
