The state grid corporation of China's practice and outlook for promoting new energy development

Abstract: The rapid development and effective accommodation of new energy gradually became the focus of various sectors of Chinese society in the period of 2011-2020. Based on the State Grid Corporation of China's development of new energy and its accommodation patterns, the mechanisms of new energy accommodation, and the continuous 'doubledecline' effect in recent years, this article analyses a series of measures adopted by State Grid Corporation of China to promote new energy accommodation in China. These measures inc… Show more

“…However, such plans cannot just stay on paper. The SGCC has already taken actions to support the energy transition via resource coordination, new transmission development, and guidance on energy development and integration [57]. Given the important role that hydrogen can play in realizing ultimate carbon neutrality, it is possible that green hydrogenrelated businesses will be integrated into the plan in the future; once this happens, more internal resources will be skewed toward green hydrogen development.…”

“…Petrochemical companies such as Sinopec and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have received far more hydrogen-related patents than others, followed by power generation groups such as the China Huaneng Group (CHNG) and the China Datang Corporation (CDT), making the SGCC's achievements less impressive. Another risk scenario rising from managerial expectations may be the stereotype relating to Chinese SOE measures of innovative achievement, which often emphasizes the number of innovations over the quality [57], resulting in insufficient organizational breakthroughs in hydrogen technologies despite tremendous resources and effort.…”

“…The reconstruction of lines and equipment maintenance is difficult. The frequently adjusted operation mode has increased the uncertainty of the power grid, which leads to a high work intensity and operation difficulty for the power grid staff [1]. On the other hand, during the daily operation and maintenance of the power grid, the staff usually operate in the telephone command mode.…”

“…Considering the fluctuation, intermittence, and dispersion of RESs, large-scale decentralised RESs accessing a distribution network will have many adverse effects, such as abnormal power flows, degradations of power quality, and misoperation or rejection of relay protection [6]. Avoiding these adverse impacts is a key problem for distribution networks [7]. Meanwhile, owing to the utilisation of distributed energy resources (DERs), power users will no longer be energy consumers in the traditional sense, but will become energy prosumers [8].…”
