The triangle assessment method: A new procedure for eliciting expert judgement

Abstract: Highlights  We introduce a new method (MTC © ) for eliciting expert opinion by comparison of trios.  We present the axiomatic bases and theorems for the MTC © . We compare the MTC © and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). We illustrate an example of application of the MTC © to multi-criteria decisionmaking. “…MCS has been widely used for the planning of natural resources (Klausmeyer and Shaw, 2009;Soares-Filho et al, 2010;Pérez-Rodríguez and Rojo-Alboreca, 2017). Many studies combined simulation methods with GIS analysis, above all to manage the control of fire (Kanga and Singh, 2017), erosion (Vieira et al, 2018), water management (Dimitriou et al, 2017) and to predict the effects of changes in land use (Terra et al, 2014).…”

“…Building a multi-level hierarchy is essential to reduce the number of pairwise comparisons (Pérez-Rodríguez and Rojo-Alboreca, 2017). For this reason, it is necessary to define the hierarchical structure in the most homogeneous manner, considering all the relevant objectives for the transboundary area.…”

“…The intervention part of the research relies on the qualitative data obtained through the assessment of the students' research papers by the students and a panel of 7 experts. The students performed an assessment using the checklist to assess students' research papers (see Appendix B), and the experts employed criteria and the Triangular Assessment Method (TAM) to assess the papers (Pérez- Rodríguez & Rojo-Alboreca, 2017). The consensus meeting was held to allow the experts to express their reasoning for the scores.…”

“…In the reflection stage, nine teacher volunteers were supposed to express their judgements about the importance of every specified component of the self-branding viewed from their perspective in terms of implementation. They were asked to use the Triangular Assessment Method (TAM) (Pérez-Rodríguez & Rojo-Alboreca, 2017) to perform that. They used the 5-point scale from 1 -'very important and needs a lot of effort to implement', to 5 -'not important at all'.…”
